Ok, long story short, we're most likely going to put Dylan in Kindergarten next year. We were going to put him in the 'Advanced 5 Yr Old Pre-K', but are probably going to go forth with K. Academically we know he'll be fine. Since he takes Speech Therapy for his articulation, the school district will actually work with us to place him with the best K teacher for his introverted personality which will make a huge difference. We'll get to meet the teachers before-hand and choose who would be the best fit. The only concern we have is how 'shy' he is, but I think he'll adjust just as well whether he has another year of Pre-K or not. I think this first year of PreK was the biggest challenge and another year wont make too much difference. Personally we don't care for the teacher he'd have next year (which is the one he has this year) and we just feel that going back to the same school/same teacher is just going to spin his wheels and get him nowhere. His current teacher has no interest in helping him get comfortable in the classroom - and I'm sure she wont next year either. She just figures he's a 'wallflower' and leaves him alone instead of trying to bring out his strengths. There are no other schools right around here with a 5 yr old PreK so it's probably best just to truck on forward and put him in K. I think he'll LOVE all the extra learning he'll have in K and he'll like the structured environment better.
Thank goodness K is only half day! It'll be hard enough for me to be away from him 5 days a week half the day, there's no way I'd be able to handle him being gone 5 full days a week. It's hard to believe that my baby is old enough to go to big-kid school!
