Dylan has a friend... a girlfriend?

Chan and I have discovered a side to Dylan that we've never seen before! Our neighborhood had a block party this past weekend and one of the neighbors grandkids were there. A little girl named Lauren who's 5 and her 4 yr old brother. Shortly after we got to the block party, Dylan took off playing with Lauren! A girl he's never met before. He was talking to her and playing with her as if they've been friends forever! We've never seen such a sight. Then Dylan asked if he could take her down to our house (the party was up at the cul-de-sac). I said 'ok'. So the two of them and Cameron went off running to the house. Then I guess they were on the golf course and Dylan asked some older kids if they wanted to golf!! Dylan spoke, by choice, to kids he's never met.... and they didn't even speak first or ask him a question. Dylan spoke volunteerily.

I can try to describe Dylan & Lauren together, but it's impossible to fully describe it. By the time I walked back to our house, they were running and laughing and playing and chatting up a storm. He was running around the yard, laughing and yelling and pushing Lauren around in Gabriel's umbrella stroller. Then they ran inside and Dylan showed her his room and his mouth didn't stop the whole night. They even held hands as he walked her home!!! Normally Dylan will not interact with other kids (besides family) and if he does, there is a warming up period. But with Lauren, there was no warming up period!

Now, Lauren is only 5, but she is going on 15. Here's this little 5 year old girl singing that song "I kissed a girl and I liked it. It taste like cherry chapstick...." Yes, a little girl singing that. Then she started to sing "Me and Dylan sitting in a tree..." Talk about a crazy match. This girl is NOT shy one tiny bit. It really brought something out in Dylan. It was funny, she was up on the boys top bunk and she asked me where Gabriel sleeps. I said that he sleeps in his crib in his room. She got all giddy and squeeled "OH, I LOVE baby's rooms!! Can I see it!" and when we got into Gabriel's room she was like "Aaahh!! Put him in his crib! Put him in! It's so cute!" She wanted to get the visual of cute little Gabriel actually in his baby crib.

I guess Lauren and her brother go to their grandmas several nights a week (seems like a divorce situation.) I think the dad might have custody or something. She'll be going into 1st grade, but sadly not a Red Mill. The only thing is that the grandmother was at the block party and had no idea where the 4 and 5 yr old were... and didn't really seem to care. They were in a strangers house - after dark - no one really bothered to know where they were. I finally told her that she really shouldn't be in our house without her grandmas permission. My only fear will be that she will be one of those kids that will be at our house all the time, uninvited and will be hard to get rid of when I need to. I don't want to get stuck being their babysitter. The grandmother said that the little boy (who's 4) is super agressive. Apparently he's pretty rough and she worries that he'll be too roudy and badly behaved around Dylan and Cam. He did seem much older than 4. He was flying through the neighborhood on his bike - I mean flying... and with no training wheels. He's pretty rough-n-tumble and I think Lauren is a little that way too. Oh well, it's just absolutely amazing to see Dylan in such rare form. He and Lauren hit it off like I've never seen before. Wow, what an amazing change!

Wonder if he'll still be that way the next time he see's her. I'll keep ya posted.
