We were at the Hampden pool and they have a huge kiddie pool. Out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw Cam pick something up and I thought I heard the lifeguard yell at him to put it down, but I wasn't sure if it was Cam or someone else. Next thing we know the lifeguard started yelling "Everyone out of the pool! Now!" Then a whole team of people came out and put orange cones all the way around the pool. Everyone was staring into the water. Then someone came with a pool skimmer and fished something out. Of course poop was on everyone's mind. That's when it occurred to me about Cam picking something up. I said to Cam "Did you pick something up in the water?" He said "No." I said "It's ok if you did, I just need to know." and he said "Yes." I said "Was it poop?" He said "No. It was long and skinny and had a point. I think it was a stick." I'm thinkin' 'Oh no. He grabbed poop!'. Just then the lifeguard yelled "False Alarm!" ...I guess it WAS a stick. lol. Boy, those lifeguards didn't take any chances. They didn't even step into the 12" water to get a closer look. They quarantined the whole place off in an instant! At least they keep an eye out for that type of thing. I guess it's pretty common.
The other day Dylan reached into their hermit crab tank and instead of finding his crab active like it usually is... it was dried out and crusty - a claw plopped off. It scared Dylan and he dropped it. There goes crab #3. I was surprised though considering he had food, water, proper environment etc.. We left him in the tank for like 3 days until daddy could get him out. The boys kept checking the tank to see if, by chance, it would be in a different spot and possibly still be alive. Nope, it didn't move. It was still a crusty mess. Dylan kept begging to go buy a new one, but I figured we'd hold off a bit. Then the other night Chan went in to get the dead crab and the crusty body. Before he scooped out the remains, he picked up the old shell and looked inside... there was Dylan's crab... alive and well!!! We all just stood there looking at the shell, stunned. What the heck!? We have a dead crab body, but the crab is still alive. hhmmm. That's when I ran to the computer to look up crab info and apparently they shed their exoskeleton - legs, claws, eyes etc. and then grow them back. Apparently it's very common to assume your crab is dead when it's not. Well, can you imagine the surprise on the face of a 6 year old who thought his beloved pet was dead for 3 days and then, surprise, false alarm. I'll be darned, he's alive. Like usual, Dylan gets whatever he wants! ...according to the online crab info, we have to put the exoskeleton back in the cage so that he can eat it!!! Oh the joys of raising boys! :)
Today Cameron had to poop. On his way to the bathroom he said to himself "Poop is like a little package" and wandered into the bathroom. I started laughing and said "What's in the package?" He matter-of-factly said "My cereal". So, apparently, poop is your bodies way of redelivering your lunch in a nice little package.
Gabriel took one step today by accident. It was his first! He was reaching for a toy that was too far and his one foot moved forward, then he lunged and grabbed onto the toy bin. Not sure if it was truly classified as a first step, but right now it's all we got. :) That's ok, I don't want my baby to grow up too fast. He's still 'on schedule' as far as statistics on walking. I belong to an online forum and several moms posted that their kids didn't walk til 14-18 months and once the did, they took off running. He just doesn't have any desire. He'll walk with a push toy or while holding on to someone or something, but he's not confident enough to go at it alone.
