Our new Sweet Greetings website is up! www.Sweet-Greetings.com
The stork business is really growing! The business started 5 years ago when I handpainted a hidious-looking plywood stork in our family room. Then they actually started renting. Later we moved into helping others start their own stork rental business. After awhile I realized that I'd like to have a better looking stork, so I created one and then over time took it a step further and hired a professional illustrator to design something that noone has ever seen before - a fun, fresh, whimsical style stork (long gone the days of the traditional style stork with a delivery cap and bowtie.) Then we added a whole new line of signs to our business (birthday, wedding, graduation etc..). With the launch of those new signs in 2006 we also changed our name from The Stork's Nest to Sweet Greetings. We also switched from a Sole Proprietor to an actual Corporation (sounds so formal, doesn't it). I then took the proper steps to copyright all of our signs/designs to have legal rights over the images that the artist created for us. And now we're moving another big step ahead by trademarking our name! So, along with McDonalds and Walmart - Sweet Greetings will be on the list of companies that get to put that little circle with an R around it next to our name. Which gives us sole rights to that name. It's OURS! So, I've filled out the long forms for the trademark...now we're only 13-18 months away! ....yep, apparently it's a very long, slow process because of all the legal work involved with checking into the ownership stuff - I don't really know what all they do, but apparently it has to be researched indepthly. Luckily we got started now. One of the first questions I'm usually asked when someone inquires about our business opportunities is "Can we use your name?" That's when I realized that since we are a professional business, I don't want everybody and their brother using our name and confusing us with others (especially other businesses who don't buy our products). I haven't decided if we'll offer the option for our partners to buy the use of our name (such as: Sweet Greetings of Chicago) or just keep it strictly for ourselves. At least we'd then have the power over who has it and how they used it. Anyway, it's been a long busy road and I look forward to many more years of growing and growing.
