What a month

It's been a busy month in the Bryson household (then again, it's always busy here).

Dylan had swimming with school last week. The second graders went to the Red Land pool for 1o days. First Dylan was scared, then he loved it, then the next day he hated it (when he had to jump into the deep end) and then the next day he loved it again. I would say that overall he enjoyed most of it. Now for his birthday he wants flippers, a life vest and a kickboard.

Cameron had his kindergarten registration. He is VERY excited for kindergarten... and he's more than ready for it. He's reading fluently now and can write sentences with proper punctuation. He can pick up almost any children's book and read it cover to cover. And his math skills, well, they're amazing.

Cam started t-ball this week and so far so good! He really enjoys it.

Dylan surprised us the other day when he brought home a chapter book ('Flat Stanley') from the Book Fair that Mimi took him to. He was obsessed with reading it every night and finished the entire book in 3 or 4 evenings! Out of nowhere he started reading chapter paperbacks with hardly any pictures at all. It's a big change from him complaining when I would ask him to read a page in a picture book. It's awesome that the Reading Bug has finally bit him. I went to the library yesterday and got him a few more chapter books to read - two more Flat Stanley's and The Diary of a Whimpy Kid.

Gabriel is working on his potty training. He's doing pretty good with it. He asked to use the potty at the library yesterday and used it at Home Depot today.

Chan has been at his new job for 4 months... he decided to ask his boss for a raise already and, YIPPIE, he got it! :) It doesn't hurt to ask!

I happen to come across an ad for a part time Graphic Designer job at Higashi Pearls & Fine Jewelry with "flexible" hours. Sounded pretty interesting. Most of the part time jobs out there will still require you to work in their office during office hours which just wont work for me. I miss Graphic Design and we could always use a few extra bucks, so I decided to send a resume and samples. I got a call for an interview and got the job!! She said that she got TONS of resumes. She forwarded the resumes to her previous designer (who is now taking much larger clients, like the Whitaker Center, and doesn't have as much time for Higashi's projects anymore) and he helped her narrow it down to the top resumes. I'm super excited that I got chosen for the job - especially since it's a tough industry to break back into after being gone for 5 years. My portfolio is a tad outdated, but it's very well-rounded and I guess my experience spoke for itself. The best part is that I get to work from home during my own hours. I'll go in for meetings each week, but otherwise, I'm on my own! I'll be doing their website, print materials, billboards, facebook updates etc.. It's the perfect opportunity for me! ....now if I can just squeeze a few more hours into the day...

Then yesterday I got an email from Central Penn Parent Magazine saying that they would like to write a story about Selective Mutism and will be interviewing me for the story. Just so happens that the freelance writer that got assigned the story is a girl I worked with at the Patriot (she was in the Marketing Dept). Small world.
