I'm back! I know it's been awhile. Life is so crazy and now with facebook it's easier to keep up with everyone that way, but I don't want to neglect the blog because it's my only form of journaling to remember these crazy days.
Poor little Patch (our mellow, cuddly guinea pig) died today. We could tell a day or so ago that he wasn't doing well. I broke the news to Dylan and Cam and they were ok with it. Cameron said matter-of-factly "He's in a better place". It wasn't until I told Gabriel about Patch that the waterworks burst - Gabriel is devastated. He burst into tears and has a broken heart. His first loss of a childhood pet. So sad. He loved Patch so much. :(
Of course now Dylan and Cam want a chameleon. When Cam told Ama that Patch died, he said "Now we're just one guinea pig away from a chameleon!" That's Cam for ya, always looking on the bright side! :)
The Pinewood Derby was a few days ago. Of course Dylan had to pick the most difficult car to make... a 1969 Red Baron Red Line Hot Wheel look-alike. And me being me said "ok"...and spent about 12 hours straight making a Red Baron. I didn't have the proper electric saw, so I hand-chiseled most of it and built some parts of it with putty and hunted through 5 stores to find the right shade of paint and ordered a piece off the internet and hand-painted little red lines on the wheels. Next year he's in charge of making his OWN car. I have to say though, it came out looking pretty authentic... given the time constraints, lack of tools etc. I told Dylan that although it looks nice, it wasn't built for speed. To our surprise he kept winning race after race! We were all so excited. We were all SURE that he'd get a Top 3 trophy! Sadly, when they announced the trophies, he must have missed Top 3 by a hair and didn't get it. He burst into tears at the derby. He was crushed. I think he was so devastated because he was so sure he had won. In the past he didn't get a big trophy, but it was no shock considering his car always came in 3rd. I felt so bad for him. We were as shocked as he was. Cameron and Gabriel painted their own cars themselves and they came out really nice, but on race-day the axils kept splitting on Cam's car and he ended up having to race Dylan's car from last year. Both Cam and Gabriel won a few races too - but since they were siblings they weren't eligible for the big trophies. I'm determined to help Dylan win next year! After Gabriel raced his car in the sibling race and won first place he got so excited and said "I WON! And everyone else LOST!"
Gabriel's car - Yellow, of course... his favorite color. He painted all the yellow himself.

Cameron's car that he painted all by himself.... then the wheel broke off and he ended up racing Dylan's car from last year.
Me, Chan, Sara and George spent an evening at the symphony. Sounds very sophisticated, doesn't it? We thought so too... til we were all bored to tears. Seriously, I was bored to the point of finding ridiculous things about it that made me burst into laughter... which lead to laughing so hard I had tears. I doubt laughing at a symphony is considered appropriate. Guess I'm not as cultured as I thought I was.

Chan had a "little" run in with a dresser. 9 stapleson the way to the symphony!
First snowman of the year. A perfect 10!
Dylan and Chan went to Cub Scout camp this winter and had a great time. This place was like a castle compared to last year! This year they actually had heat and indoor plumbing - which is good considering it was in the single digits at night.
See.... this place really IS a castle compared to last year! Literally.
Watch out! Dylan now knows how to shoot a bb gun AND can carry a pocket knife!
Gabriel and Cam at the 3D movie "Santa vs The Snowman" at the Whitaker Center. It was AWESOME!

Dylan had his first sleepover at our house the other night. His friend Ryan stayed over. They had a great time! It's the first time Ryan and his parents got to see the 'real' Dylan.
Gabriel had a cardiologist appointment and it went very well. Nothing serious, thankfully! Just a 'basic' heart murmur due to some extra muscle tissue in his heart.
Gave Gabriel a sip of soda (caffeine free) for the first time just to see how he'd react to the carbonation and he said "Wow! That's sour! It makes me want to dance with pretty girls!!"... what!? We totally need to keep our eye on this one! He's a wild child! Now I definitely know why we don't give our kids soda. Although caffeine free, the sugar high just gave way... at 10:30pm!!! It was entertaining to see them react to the bubbles, but not so much almost 3 hours past bedtime.
Another successful day of sledding. I think it would be wise to invest in a pair of snow pants for myself. I'm a wee bit frozen!!
The boys got their 2nd marking period report cards. Wonderful, as usual! Cam's report card said that he already mastered the end-of-the-year kindergarten requirements (duh!) and that he is to now start implementing first grade words into his work. He got 'Advanced' and 'Exceeds' on pretty much everything. Dylan is doing awesome as well! Nothing but A's and B's... which in 3rd grade is a huge accomplishment! They're doing multiplication, division, cursive, written reports etc. They make you earn A's and B's in 3rd grade now, they're not just handed to you for showing up. I'm very proud of both of the boys!
Speaking of smarty pants, Gabriel is starting to read!
