Yesterday was really frightening! We almost had a major medical emergency - thankfully everything turned out ok. I was taking the boys to Toys R Us and I got Gabriel (and his infant car seat) out of the car and set it onto the shopping cart. Then I reached back into the car to get Cameron and a few other things. I heard Dylan yell. When I turned around I saw that Dylan was standing on the end of the shopping cart and it was starting to roll away. Then, all of a sudden, the cart hit a pothole and FLIPPED!!! Gabriel's car seat FLEW out of the cart and slammed onto the parking lot!!!! I started yelling "NO!!!" and ran "as fast as a race car" (according to Dylan) over to Gabriel. Several people in the parking lot ran over too. I was shaking like crazy trying to get him out of his seat and check to see if he was alright. Thank God he was ok. Luckily he was still strapped in. He didn't seem to be hurt, but I'm still keeping my eye on him for signs of whiplash. I just keep thinking about the many times that I have put an infant car seat onto a shopping cart and unhooked the straps. If he wasn't buckled in, he would have been severely hurt. He would have flown from the seat and his little body would have crashed directly onto the pavement. Thank goodness a car wasn't coming either. Dylan got a minor boo-boo on his elbow from where he landed and somehow as I was running to try to save the cart before it tipped, I sliced my big toe nail - ouch!! It sliced all the way up the middle! I was still nauseous and shaky 2 hours later. The sight of that cart rolling away and flipping over with Gabriel in it was like watching it in slow motion. It was horrible. So....everyone who reads this who ever takes children in shopping carts - be careful! Make sure the baby is strapped into his/her car seat, don't let children stand on the end of the cart and be extra cautious in parking lots where the ground isn't level. I had only turned around for a few seconds when all this happened.
Ok - onto something that will make you smile. Yesterday Dylan was in the bathroom doing his business when he ran out with his pants off and tears in his eyes. "Come see what happened!" he said. Never a good thing to hear when following someone into the bathroom. Apparently the toilet paper roll was empty and like a good boy, he was changing the roll. Well, as he was doing so, the one piece of the roll holder dropped into the toilet.......did I mention that Dylan had diarrhea! I couldn't even see it - it sank to the bottom of the abyss. Talk about disgusting. What to do? What to do? I went and got a pair of tongs and went fishing for the missing piece. Good news is that I found it...bad news is that everyone reading this might fear ever eating at our house again! lol. Don't worry, the tongs got washed off and dunked in Clorox. We don't usually stick our utensils into the toilet. :)
