Last night was the Masquerade Jam Halloween Party at Dylan's school. Of course, it was packed! K-5th grade, parents, younger siblings, teachers and community volunteers. There are over 100 kids just in the kindergarten classes at Red Mill! I'm sure they weren't all there, but most of them were. One of the costume contests were for the kindergartners and younger siblings. As you'll see in the photo below, there were a ton of kids in the contest.... and Cameron won FIRST PLACE! He wore his train engineer costume and won a Target gift card. :) I do feel kinda bad because Dylan was SO proud of his fire truck costume and didn't understand why he didn't win anything - and Cam didn't really seem to care too much that he won, he was just excited to be free to dance as crazy as he wanted (they had a DJ there). I think Dylan took it personally and thought that they didn't like his costume or that they liked Cameron better or something. Oh well, I guess he has to learn that he can't always win. We do think that they should have done the contest a little different - at least 2 (maybe all 3) of the contest winners were younger siblings. I think they should have given the prizes to the kindergartners and then maybe had one prize for younger siblings or something.
Dylan was all excited to see Cora there (dressed as a snow princess). Cora is just as shy as Dylan (and for anyone who doesn't know, Cora is Dylan's best friend...even though I'm not sure if they've ever actually spoken to each other. lol). You have to imagine a massive amount of elementary school kids yelling and dancing around like crazy in their costumes....and two little kids standing perfectly still side by side. Cora and Dylan looked like two middle school kids at a school dance. They both wanted to talk to each other, but neither would make the first move. They just kept peeking over at each other. It was actually pretty cute. Finally after about an hour and a half, Dylan took off and started dancing with Cameron (who had been dancing from the moment he walked in). Near the end of the night Dylan and Cam were tearing up the dance floor together and won some prizes for dancing and for playing different games. They had all the kids at the party line up into two lines and then one kid from each line had to dance down the middle and get a prize at the end... Dylan actually participated. He was one of the first kids to go and he danced his way down the line in front of the whole school!
Gabriel reached a milestone at the Halloween Party - he sat up alone for the first time! He just turned 5 mo old the other day and he was sitting for like 10 seconds at a time.
We had a really fun night!
