Happy Birthday Dylan & Gabriel!

Today we had Dylan & Gabriel's bday party. I just can't believe they're 6 and 1 already. Poor Gabriel just wasn't into partying today. Luckily it was his party so he could cry if he wanted to... and he did. He slept through most of the party and for quite awhile after it was over. He didn't eat much either, not sure if he's coming down with something. We attempted to put cake in front of him two times at the party and he was not interested - Gabriel passing up food?? Sweet food?? There must be something wrong. He was also not thrilled with the cute little prince party hat I tried to put on him. After he got up from his nap he was all smiles and enjoyed getting photos with his hands in the cake, yet he still only took a bite or two of the frosting and didn't really want it. Gabriel can out eat Dylan and Cameron, so for him not to eat the cake was odd. Hope he's not getting sick.

Gabriel was a little upset by the time we got to cake -
he really let us know it when I put the party hat on him!

All he wanted was a little nap.
We tried the cake again later and he was all smiles.

I was really looking forward to having Gabriel open everyones presents while they were here, but he was sound asleep. I guess that's one of the true pleasures of being a baby - if you're tired, simply go take a nap. It doesn't matter if you're in the middle of a party and everyone came to see you. Wouldn't it be great if we could all just take a nap when we got tired?

Now that he's turning 1, Gabriel thinks he's hot stuff... Dylan and Cam both started walking right around their first bday, but Gabriel has no interest. He doesn't even like standing up (the other boys were pulling up at around 8 mo and as of this morning Gabriel had still never done it before). Well today, out of nowhere, Gabriel is standing. I went in to get him after his nap and he was standing in his crib for the first time. Then today we were in the living room and I turned around for about 30 seconds and he was already 3 steps up the staircase... he'd never even pulled himself up any of our steps before. We also have a kiddie microphone and Gabriel would never speak into it when I turned it on, but today (now that he's a big boy) he was babbling into it like a pro. I guess hearing the Happy Birthday song and seeing the candles on the cake must have given him a major growth spurt - he fell asleep during the party and when he woke up he was a big boy!

Dylan had a blast today. After everyone left he was able to open everything up and play with it. With each gift he opened he said "THIS is my favorite gift!"... so needless to say, he loved everything! He even told me tonight that he got a lot of great gifts and would like to send everyone a thank you card. Isn't that sweet. He's only 6 and knows the importance of saying thank you. Even though he may not always be able to verbally say it, he feels it and wants everyone to know.

Today was a really nice day. Of course I was exhausted, but at least we were able to do 2 parties in one shot. Then again, I don't get off too easy, Dylan has a party with his classmates tomorrow at the City Island Mini Golf. Thankfully they'll take care of all the food, the entertainment and the cleanup. We'll probably also ride the train around the island.

Thank you to everyone who came today. It's awesome to know how loved the boys are! I'll post all the party photos when I upload the entire May album at the end of the month.
