The big move...

Tonight is the first official night that both boys slept in 'their' bedroom. I wasn't planning on moving Cameron to Dylan's room for awhile yet - I like having him in his crib. He wakes up and plays quietly for a half hour or so and stays put. If he doesn't want to go to bed, he can't just get up and walk away. Anyway, for the last day or two Dylan has been asking Cameron to sleep in the bunk bed and Cameron keeps saying 'no'. Well, today, I told Cameron that it was time for a nap and I told him to head to his bedroom and he said 'no'. I went out to the kitchen to get his Nuk and walked back to his room... he wasn't there. I looked in Dylan's room and he was laying in the bottom bunk! I simply gave him his pacifier and left and he went to sleep! He's never napped anywhere for me except his crib or carseat. This got Dylan super excited and all evening Dylan kept asking Cameron "Do you want to sleep in my bed tonight?" and of course Cameron's 2-year-old reply was "no". But at bedtime both boys crawled into the bottom bunk, I left the room and never heard a peep from either of them! I went back in awhile later and they were sound asleep (together in one bed, of course). It felt so weird having the whole evening 'free'. It usually takes forever to get them to sleep at night. I put Cam to bed (books, rocking etc..) and Chan lays with Dylan (and falls asleep for the night). But tonight they just went to bed on their own! KNOCK ON WOOD! I'm not going to get too excited yet, it was only one night. The thrill might wear off quickly. It's kinda sad though -- it's hard to believe that Cameron is old enough to be out of his crib! Where did my baby go?..... I guess he's in my belly. :)

The other day Dylan said to Cameron "Do you want to play soccer like me when you turn 4?" and Cameron quicky replied "No. Football!" It was really funny that Cameron has already decided that he's playing football! He gets excited when he sees anything football related. He watched part of the Superbowl with Chan and kept saying things like "FALL DOWN!" and "BIG PILE" when they'd tackle. He's got a pretty good throwing arm already too!

Bryson came over today and Cameron was taking the roll of big brother. He insisted on washing Bryson's face when Bryson was done eating. Cameron even yelled at Bryson, "HEY!" because Bryson was fighting him (I think he's taken notice to all the years of mommy telling Cam to hold still while I cleaned him up).

Dylan is healing after his little accident the other day. He was running around with the engine to his large train set and he tripped and fell and the train went right into his face! It cut his eyeball and it was bleeding and he also cut his cheek, the side of his nose and the side of his head. Cameron has a matching cut on his face from when Chan poked him in his cheek with his fingernail!

Dylan is doing great in speech! I'm impressed with how quickly his speech is improving and how excited he is to practice. We've decided to put Dylan in the 'Advanced 5 Year Old Pre-K' next year instead of Kindergarten. The more people I talked to, I realized that in this area it's very common to wait until the child is 6 or near 6 to start K since it's so "education based" and less "play based" like K used to be. We'll also get to choose whether he goes 3, 4 or 5 days per week (for 2 1/2 hrs each day). I'm not sure yet how many days a week we'll do. I was thinking that 4 might be nice because he's only going 3 now and when he goes to K it'll be 5. It might be a good way to step into the 5 day a week routine. There's no need to rush him out the door and into K. I'd rather him have the confidence of being ahead rather than chancing the possibility that he'd withdraw from all the pressures he'd be facing at once.

I think we might hold off on preschool for Cameron next year. I know he loves to socialize, but there are other ways to do that without putting him in school. First off Dylan's class and Cameron's class would be at opposite times on the same day - which means my entire day a few days a week would consist of dropping off and picking up and dropping off and picking up - while towing along the baby. I figure that there are plenty of other activities I can sign Cameron up for and I could go with him (the West Shore Rec offers a lot of classes and such). He wouldn't even be 3 yet at the beginning of the school year and he'd have to do 3 years of pre-k before he'd be old enough for K. Since I'm home with the kids, there's no need to put him in any sooner than we need to.
