I'm not sure if you've heard the good ws or not, but Dylan got ALL 100 questions right on his Knowledge-A-Thon!! We are SO proud of him! He worked very, very hard on them. Some of those questions were pretty tough for a 5 year old: Christopher Columbus, George W Bush, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Mississippi River etc.. and I think that what we're proudest of is the fact that the test was administered by a complete stranger and Dylan was not only able to speak to her, but was able to speak clearly enough to be understood - and even though I'm sure he was scared to speak to her, he didn't let his nerves get in the way of remembering all the answers. We were still working on questions up until I dropped him off in front of the school that morning. I was worried that he'd get 2 or 3 wrong and miss out on dinner with his teacher. In the beginning Dylan got frustrated by having to study so many questions over and over again. 100 is a lot of questions to study. After awhile he wanted nothing to do with it anymore. I figured that I didn't want to put too much pressure on him and I let him know that he didn't have to get them all correct, we were still very proud of him for trying his best. I would have felt awful if he missed a few and felt that we weren't proud of him or that we were disappointed or something. Well.... the testing went on for over a week (the whole school was being tested) and Dylan found out that a couple kids got them all correct and they were going to get to have dinner with "boy teacher"... Suddenly Dylan was studying his butt off! He worked very hard and it paid off. The day he got them all right he realized that Cora did too! I'm not sure who he's more excited to have dinner with - Mr. K or Cora! :)
Anyway, thank you to everyone who supported Dylan with donations. It is very much appreciated and not only will Dylan get dinner, but he'll also get all kinds of Red Mill gear (cup, shirt, hat, backpack).
I think this was an excellent fundraiser for the school. Much better than having kids sell candy or wrapping paper door to door. This gives them the chance to learn a lot of valuable information, strive for a goal and the school gets to keep all of the money instead of giving half of it towards purchasing the candy/wrapping paper etc.. The school is getting a brand new playground. They got half of it in over the fall and the rest will be going in over the summer. The old playground was pretty beat up, splintering wood etc.. Red Mill offers a lot of wonderful activities, programs and equipment for the kids -- these fundraisers are needed to keep all this up. Thank you again!!
