I started off April Fools Day by sneaking into the boys room last night while they were sleeping and colored their toenails a rainbow of colors (with washable markers). Then I printed off an 'impossible' maze for them to do - none of the paths lead to the end. Then, the best one, was just before dinner I told the boys that they had to have something healthy before they ate their pizza. I sat a bowl of peas and carrots in front of each of them. Cameron said "I'll try them".... and Dylan threw a big tantrum. The sneaky part was that I actually hand crafted and molded each pea and each carrot out of green Starbursts candy and orange gummy candy. It looked real!! It was hilarious because Cameron took one bite and simply said "These are yummy!" and ate the whole bowl -- without even spoiling the surprise for Dylan. There sat Dylan throwing a huge fit. He shoved his bowl across the table a few times, he was grunting and even produced real tears! Of course we have it all on video. This went on for over 10 min. He started to yell and fuss and whine and beg for something else. Then he said he'd eat it with "red dip dip" (aka: ketchup). We simply told him "No. You will eat them now like we said!" He was so upset and mad. Finally he picked a pea up... felt it... and squished it in his fingers. Of course it smooshed like a chewy candy. He knew something was odd, but didn't know what exactly. The he sniffed it and said "It doesn't smell like something I'd like!!" Which is funny, because it was candy. Anyway, after a long fight with him he took a bite of carrot. I think he was still confused. Finally I said "April Fools!" A little smile came on his face (which was still wet with tears). All awhile Cameron quietly sat there eating his candy. He didn't seem to care that Dylan was yelling and screaming. I was sure Cam would just say "Dylan. It's candy. It's not real peas and carrots!" But he didn't, which made it so much better. Cam's licking his bowl while Dylan cried. It was great! Not that I enjoy making my kids cry (lol), but this was a good trick. All day Dylan had been begging me to play an April Fools trick on him. After this one was all over he said "Do another one on me", so I don't think he was too traumatized by it. I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of the peas/carrots. At least we have video.
To trick daddy I stuffed a pair of both the boys jeans with plastic grocery bags and added shoes at the end of the pants. I stacked pillows on top of the pants and covered them with a blanket. It looked like the boys were hiding under the blanket. Meanwhile the boys hid in the closet. I told Chan to go look for the boys. At first he thought it was really them, but then he started to walk around their room pretending he couldn't find them and said "Maybe they're in the closet". I had to quickly say "NO!" I think that's when he caught on that they were in there and that it wasn't really them on the bed. I wish I didn't have to tell him to not open the closet so that he would have been super surprised when he lifted the cover. Oh well, it fooled him for a few seconds.
I love April Fools Day!
